Born a free-spirit in a strict culture, Chef Nobuo Fukuda grew up with a desire to bridge the gap between his native Japan and the rest of the world, to become, in the words of his father, "Kakehashi." Nobuo faced incredible challenges to pursue this destiny: leaving his family in Japan and emigrating to the United States, rising from a dishwasher at Benihana to James Beard Award winning chef, innovating a cuisine that connects Japan to the rest of the world.
Andrew Gooi is a Malaysian-born, U.S.-based filmmaker. He was moved by the food stories he grew up around. This was the catalyst that inspired him to begin capturing on film not only dishes, but the food stories of the people behind them. He believes most people have a food story, be it a memorable flavor profile from childhood, or an introduction to a dish that would forever change their lives.
Andrew began Food Talkies - foodtalkies.com - in 2016 as the primary platform to share these food stories, from short films to a feature-length documentary. In 2017, Food Talkies was nominated for the James Beard Awards for 'Visual & Technical Excellence' and for 'Video Webcast: On Location.'
