Sister Wife

Synopsis

In 1969, weary of the harsh way of life in the U.S. ghettos and motivated by a sense of lack of origin, a number of African-Americans moved to southern Israel and established communities and a new identity. The members of these communities became known as the Hebrew Israelites; they believe only in the Law of the Torah and, as in Biblical days, they practice polygamy, allowing their men to marry up to seven women. SISTER WIFE observantly documents this unique culture by following the integration of a second wife into a previously-established marriage, capturing the ironies and complexities of the patriarchal community.

Worked on various productions in Israel and abroad. Studied in the TV and Film Dept. of Tel-Aviv University. Sister-Wife is her first documentary film.

Hadar Kleinman

Born in Ramat-Gan, Israel in 1970. Lived in Los Angeles from 1983-1984. Studied in the TV and Film Dept. of Tel-Aviv University.
